On Friday, September 11, the Kennard-Dale High School football team will commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and recognize those who serve the community during First Responders Night prior to the Rams’ home game against New Oxford.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. behind Kennard-Dale High School, where food trucks will be available and first responder vehicles will be on display.

Activities will then move to the stadium for a 6:30 p.m. opening ceremony featuring remarks from Pennsylvania Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill of York County and a special performance by the Kennard-Dale Marching Rams.

For Rams head football coach Chris Grube, hosting the event is an important opportunity to remember the past while recognizing those who continue to serve today.

“It is important to me to honor 9/11 because we have a responsibility to remember the lives that were lost and the sacrifices made by countless first responders, military members, and ordinary Americans on that day,” said Grube. “As a teacher and coach, I believe it is especially important that we make sure the younger generation understands that 9/11 was more than a date in history, it was a moment that brought our country together and demonstrated the courage, selflessness, and strength of the American people.”

First Responders Night also provides an opportunity for Kennard-Dale High School and the Southeastern York County School District to connect with the communities they serve. For Grube, the meaning of the evening extends well beyond a high school football game.

“Never forget,” he said. “Remember the people we lost, remember the heroes who ran toward danger when others were running away, and remember the unity our country showed in the days following September 11th. I want our students and community to understand that honoring 9/11 isn't about fear or division. It is about courage, sacrifice, service, and coming together as a community. At the game Friday, we have an opportunity to recognize the first responders who serve our community every day and to say, thank you for what you do and for the sacrifices you and your families make.”

The Kennard-Dale community is invited to attend the evening as the Rams remember those lost on Sept. 11, honor the sacrifices of first responders and recognize those who continue to serve the community today.
